move with pleasure as it will eavo them many a dollar from dust injured goods g s morris of regina arrived sat urday to take charge of the big steam plow on the blood reserve mr morris has to hia credit the record of breaking in the past three seasons 4000 acres with a similar outfit as is used on the reserve and will no doubt give » good account of hiinself in the work this year he waa selected by the department from a list of 2 applicant how to make macleod grow in a aeries of future short articles wo wish to draw attention to ft number of things that a strong nnd prosperous community like maclend might do to promote growth and become one of the leading factors m the business aud agricultural affairs of the province in he past year or two the town has made good progress bub not nearly so much as it should have done with the splendid op portunities we have here — mognificient townsite rich surrounding ag ricultural territory unexcelled water system healthy climnte trans portation facilities fast becoming second to none water power which could run dozens of manufacturing plants — there is no earthly reason wby macleod should not take on an impetus m progress m coming years that would soon place her m the very front ranks many of our citizens have seen smull places with far inferior natural resources than we have here grow and prosper with astound ing rapidity through the efforts nnd loyalty of its citizens in these cases however you would see no evidence of cliques of one business man knocking another of ono faction opposing a move because it did not originate m its ranks of citizens sending away money by thous ands to outside department stores of property owners stubbornly re fusing to beautify their possessions of rate payers howling every tima the town authorities proposed an improvement m fact none of that oh.-its-good-enough-as-it-ih feeling was apparent at all but each in dividual resident of the town was a booster hunting for tho good things he could say and do for the town but at tho same time taking advantage m a financial way of his own individual interests realizing however that his neighbor's prosperity and his towns progress were the very essentials of his own happiness and success this is the feeling the chronicle is going to encourage become boosters aud sco how rapidly mncleod will grow the wilmot murder mystery theory of interrupted bur glary may be wrong a new theory who caused the death of constable wilmdt at frank stih'remains a pro found mystery the r.n.w.m.p an leaving no stone unturned and ut clue neglected to fiually land the right party or parties but so far as ii known without success the whole thiug seems to be shrouded in as much darkness as existed on the night tbe brave boy lost his life when in the performance of his duties iu protect ing the interests of the citizens of frank the general opinion that he had discovered an attempted burglary and while trying to make an arrest was shot mav not after all be the right one there had been several burglaries committed at frank just previous to the tradgedy as a natural conse quence business men and citizens generally were alarmed and on the alert for any attempt that might be made on their property this anxiety was increased by the fact tbat many tnen were out of employment and uumbers were known to be desperate characters who would not hesitate to commit a crime if they could gain by it is it not a plausible theory that some reputable person in a moment of thoughtlessness or with an over zealous determination to prevent a burglary on the premises in which he was interested armed himself with a shot gun and was on the watch for any suspicious characters who might put ia an appearance constable wiimot wus in citizens clothes when he went upou duty naturally he would be moving in alleys and the back premises of the section he waa covering in an endeavor to discover anything of a suspicious nature going on is it not very possible that some person himself imbued with the same purpose saw the constable lurking around thinking he had run onto a would be burglar called upon him to throw up bis hands such a demand would naturally have made constable wiimot conclude quickly that he was being attacked by somo desperate character and he probably made a spring towards the man in an attempt to disarm and arrest him the action would be so hasty that neither would have time for a discovery of the real etatoof affairs and in the struggle that followed the gun was discharged and the policeman killed if this theory is correct and it loo seem probable it would be well for the party who did the shooting to make a clean breast of tho whole affair aad in doing ao he would remove the stigma of a brutal murder from tbe record of the community aad he himself would hardly be punished severely for his overzealoua but deplorable act tho macleod cadet corps is about to be disbanded owing to no inter eat being taken in it by the boys this is to be regretted as the cadets could be made an interesting factor in the social and educational affairs of lhe town news comes from london of the death of sir henry campbell-banner man former british premier the cause of sir henry's death is officially given aa heart failure his has been a busy and useful life to the empire and his death causes general mourn ing we understand that the rev mr gale intends applying for permission to organize a cadet corps at st pauls mission blood rave the boys haviag been drilled for sometime by mr aldous and there is no reason why the application should not bo favor ablo acted upon at the methodist parsonage leth bridge james shaw who has resided here for some time waa married to annie mccall robertson who recently
