Regular meetings are held In the Theatre Gallery ot the Lethbridge Public Library at 7:15 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Notices Elections were held for Society officers at the aimual meeting of the LHS held on November 28, 1996, at the Royal Canadian Legion. A council member is needed for a three year term, and also a volunteer to serve on the Alex Johnston Award of Merit Committee. Duties are not onerous. If you can serve in any capacity, please call a member of the executive as listed above. The following notice of motion was put forward at the aimual meeting on November 28, 1996: 'That the Lethbridge Historical Society general membership approve the expenditure of not more than $5,000 to print a book tentatively entitled The Last Great Indian Battle, a compilation of Indian Battle stories, Archaeological Surveys and Inventories from the Indian Battle site.' This motion will be presented and voted upon at the January 28 meeting. The next regular meeting of the LHS wiU be held on January 2 8, 19 9 7 at the Lethbridge Public Library TheaUe Gallery. The program for the evening will be a presentation by the Riders of the Plains Commemorative Troop of Fort Macleod. On February 25th Dr. Gary Bowie of the University of Lethbridge will be the speaker. Dr. Bowie is well-known for his support of recreation and athletics in this area. He was one of the founders of die Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame. The Annual General Meeting of the Historial Society of Alberta is scheduled for Lethbridge- May 30, 31, and June 1st. Watch for further information in coming newsletters. Gordon Toiton, a staunch supporter of the LHS has moved. His new address is 1601 20 St. Coaldale, AB. TIM 1J7. His telephone number remains the same. Happy New Year to all! Christmas has come and gone and a new year has begim. Let's make it a banner year for the LHS by bringing in new members and writing down more of southem Alberta's history than ever before. Don't just teU your grandchildren how life has dianged during your lifetime, write it down. K it is not on paper, it may well be lost. Don't you wish you could ask your grandparents questions now? Put your memories on paper while you can, and keep history alive for coming generations. New Books: 'It Was Her War Too!'. by Harriet Hawker of Edmonton, tells the story of the Canadian Women's Army Corps during the period 1944-1946. This softcover book has 200 pages with eight pages of pictures and is available for $20.00 from the author at 15503 - 87 Avenue, Apt. 204, Edmonton, AB. T5R 4K4. 'Buffalo Legacy' a softcover book by Gordon Toiton, illusUated by George Kush is now available at the Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Centre and at their Homestead Village Mall outlet. The first publication to be sponsored by the Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Centre, we hope it is only the first of many.
